There is a French children's song that goes "Mother, mother, do the little boats on the water have legs?". Mom replies, “Of course, my little fool. If they didn't have it, they wouldn't float!" (Yes, that's a mistranslation). There you have it, the secret behind floating ships: it's their thin long legs that carry them through sand and fish. And when they stop moving, it's only because they love the tingling sensation of the wind in their sails (not because they actually need wind). If the tickling stops, they start to sulk and also stop moving. There you have it.
