Carl Stjärnlöv

Carl Stjärnlöv is a graphic designer and illustrator from Öland, now living in Stockholm, Sweden. Painting entered his life at an early age when he accompanied his mother and grandparents on oil painting trips across the island in the summers. Karlevistenen, which is one of the most enigmatic rune stones in all of Scandinavia, is the inspiration for the first watercolour painting in the “Öland” series. Apart from the island’s rune stones the series also takes inspiration from Gettlinge grave field with its three thousand year old history. Here, both stone ships and a 19th century windmill bear witness to the island’s mysterious heritage.
