The Karlevistenen is Öland's oldest and one of the Nordics' strangest rune stones. The unique thing about the stone is that it contains a shell dedicatory in the verse meter dróttkvætt and is one of the few shell dedicators in this verse meter that has been preserved in the original. The rune first tells us that the stone was erected in memory of Sibbe Foldarsson, a great man from the Viking Age, and then follows the artful poem. With poetic paraphrases, the goddess Trud, the mythical sea king Endil and one of Odin's names, Vidur, are used to describe Sibbe Foldarsson's great deeds on the seas.
